(Note: This isn’t about the Korean telenovela you are hooked with!)
Before you start reading, will you promise me one thing?!
...just read it until the end. Don’t just read with your eyes. Read with your heart. It will change your life. :)
Would you like to go to heaven? Who would say no to that?! Of course everyone does! But would you know how to get there?
As a young girl, I thought going to heaven was as hard as taking a History exam (where you’d memorize in your book dates and names from cover to cover). You need to be sinless, pure and without sin. I always fight with my brother, I cheat on exams, I disobey my parent’s rules, I violate school rules! Oh no! I’m sinful! And I don’t have a slight chance to go to heaven!
Let us see what the Bible tells us about the stairways to heaven...
Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me...”
The ticket to heaven is “Jesus Christ”.
People knew of this fact yet not all are experiencing a meaningful life and are not sure that they can claim eternal life. This is because of our sin problem. In Romans 3:23 it says that “Yes, all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory”. We are all sinners (“Yes, all have sinned).
God hates sin. He is dead serious! According to the Bible, the penalty for sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23)
But God is a loving God. He knew we can’t pay for our sins so what He did, He sent His Holy Son to die on the cross and be the sacrifice so that we can be saved.
“For God so loved the world so much that he gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life..” John 3:16
Isn’t that awesome? What a great love for mankind---that is you and me!! He sent Jesus on earth thousand of years ago became a sacrifice and now we have the chance to be saved! What was that again...? “...anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”
One day during my teen years, I was told about how to get to heaven. I did not understand. My sister said, you just need to believe and trust your whole life to Jesus. He died in the cross and saved all of us from our sins. “That easy?”, I answered. Years later, I met a Christian friend in school, she said the same thing. You just need to believe and trust your whole life to Jesus. He died in the cross and saved all of us from our sins. I think that was easy. I prayed with her and accepted Jesus to rule over my life. After that, I didn’t change much. I went on with my life sitting on the driver’s seat. Again around 3 more times (or more perhaps), God sent other Christian friends to share with me the good news. But as stubborn as I was, I did not change much. Until one day, God prompt me to go down on my knees and pray sincerely to God “Lord, I confess that I am a sinner. I need you in my life. Will you forgive me for being disobedient all my life? I accept you to rule over my life. Please help me get out of darkness. I need you. Amen.” There was no lightning or thunderstorm but I don’t know, I just knew it was for real. I knew this time, I am trusting Him and Him alone.
Am I sure I’ll go to heaven? Yes. As I have placed my faith in Jesus, I have given Him the “full” control of my life. I am not perfect. No one is. And I know that God is in the business of changing me. He is interested in you too! Are you willing to let Christ sit on the driver’s seat? It’s your choice!
